On September 8-17, 2015, the second ¡°China-U.S.-European youth elite exchange program¡± hosted by our association was held in Beijing and Qinghai. 11 youth representatives from China, the United States, the United Kingdom, and Germany attended the event. The project began in 2014 and aims to build an interactive platform for non-governmental exchanges between young politicians, think tank scholars, media elites, and business leaders in China, the United States, and Europe through dialogues, field trips, and cultural experiences. We will promote pragmatic cooperation and promote the long-term, stable and healthy development of China-U.S. and China-EU relations. The project received strong support from the China Peace Development Foundation.
During Beijing, Liu Hong, a consultant of the China Council and the Deputy Minister of the United Nations Liaison Department, met with all representatives. Through several international symposiums, thematic exchanges and briefings, the delegates introduced the political, economic, and social developments in their respective countries, the opportunities and challenges they face, and their views on bilateral relations and the international situation. Representatives from foreign countries also had a more comprehensive and objective understanding of major national development strategies and concepts such as my "four comprehensive" strategic plans and the "One Belt and One Road" strategic concept. Some delegates suggested that we should fully recognize the risks and challenges of a large number of countries along the route, diverse needs, and complex security situations. Many delegates are visiting China for the first time. They said that this visit has witnessed the steady development of the Chinese economy. People of all ethnic groups live in harmony and the people live and work in peace and content. A more comprehensive and objective understanding of a real, live China is very different from what China has learned from its own media. Visits to the streets, communities, schools, and businesses are in fact a lot more rewarding than in-depth exchanges with experts and scholars, party and government officials, teachers and students, and entrepreneurs. In Zhongguancun Chuangye Street, the delegates exchanged ideas with entrepreneurs of 3W coffee, dark horse clubs, and Yan Ziqian and other entrepreneurial incubation service organizations. During the visit to China, cultural experience activities, interactions with university teachers, students and community volunteers, as well as home visits to Beijing citizens, have made foreign representatives most memorable. Some representatives said that wearing Chinese clothes, performing ancient rituals, admiring Peking opera, reading ¡°Diatrician Rules¡±, and observing masters' live painting activities, etc., made people feel as if they were in the long river of ancient Chinese history and could truly feel the long history of China. A splendid culture, with its rich background and charm; and college teachers and students to learn basketball skills, can feel the pulse and vigor of the times from young Chinese. Entering the public family, together with the hospitable owners, the experience of making dumplings, playing the piano, singing songs, and bending the community is even more precious. It not only feels the friendly and sincere Chinese people, but also brings them closer together and deepens their understanding. The friendship has even made people realize that although the social system, cultural background, and development path of China, Europe, and the United States are different, the desire of all peoples to love life, yearn for good, and pursue happiness is the same.
