Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said on the 27th at the G7 summit expansion meeting that the support provided by the G7 nations for the establishment of durable and resilient infrastructure in the 21st century will make a key contribution to achieving the sustainable development goals. When talking about the South China Sea issue, Ban Ki-moon once again called on all parties involved to resolve their differences through peaceful and friendly forms of dialogue and in accordance with the generally accepted principles of international law, including the UN Charter and UN Convention on the Law of the Sea. He hoped that ASEAN and China would quickly reach an agreement on the ¡®code of conduct¡¯ within the framework of the ¡°Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea¡±.
When talking about the Korean Peninsula issue, Ban Ki-Moon stated that he appreciated the firm and unified position of the Group of Seven countries in opposing the DPRK¡¯s persistent provocation by strengthening its nuclear and ballistic missile capabilities. He pointed out that the international community must ensure the full implementation of all relevant Security Council resolutions and sanctions, so that North Korea understands that its protracted commitment to the development of nuclear weapons and ballistic missiles will only make its situation more insecure and keep its people hungry. . Ban Ki-moon encouraged all relevant countries, especially participants of the six-nation talks, to continue to seek peaceful resolution of tensions through peaceful dialogue with North Korea.
